Edward R. Koller, Jr.
Managing Partner
[email protected]
Under Ed’s leadership, The Howard-Sloan-Koller Group has established itself as the premiere boutique executive search firm in media, spanning digital, print, information, advertising, and public relations. Ed’s primary role is business development across all areas of the company, as well as oversight of C-level and Board-level searches. He also provides hands-on consultation for media and entertainment companies at all stages of development, including start-up, pre-IPO, pre- and post-M+A, and general high-growth companies. Over the years, he has played critical roles in staffing a wide range of both traditional and nontraditional media enterprises, from well-established, multi-title cross-platform media companies to entrepreneurial pure-play digital startups. Ed is known by clients and candidates for the direct and energetic style that he brings to the search business. Often working with client companies who are truly ahead of the curve, he is also known for being passionate about innovation and entrepreneurship. Since entering the search business in 1973, evidence of Ed’s forward thinking was seen in the searches he conducted for outdoor/in-store media and custom publishing — forms of media that were new to the traditional media market. As information technologies evolved in the early 90s and digital media was in its infancy, Ed was quick to create a practice to serve emerging media. By the late 90s Internet boom, HSK was immersed in searches for Internet clients, and today HSK’s business is about 75% digital or cross-platform. Ed spends considerable time helping traditional companies adopt the most cutting-edge strategies, while helping newer companies learn some of the lessons from the tried and true. A frequent speaker at industry events on topics related to recruiting, retraining and retention of key employees, Ed is the author of The Hiring Challenge, published by Folio Magazine. He is a member of multiple industry organizations, such as the Magazine Publishers of America, Interactive Advertising Bureau and The Advertising Club of New York. Ed is also an active philanthropist. He is currently a trustee of the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston and past president of the New York Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
