Each HSK consultant holds a leadership role within one or several specialty areas, which positions the firm to work with people who truly excel at what they do.

Thomas Culligan

Tom is a Managing Director at The Howard-Sloan-Koller Group. Tom rejoined the company after spending three years at The Washington Times as Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer. He continues to serve as Special Consultant to the President/CEO of The Washington Times, which has a range of print, digital, broadcast and social channel. Tom worked at HSK as Managing Director for two years prior to joining The Washington Times.
Tom launched his career at the Chicago Tribune serving in numerous sales and marketing management positions. Working for Tribune Company in Southern California, he was a key member of the management team that launched the Los Angeles Daily News, serving as Executive Vice President and General Manager. He led major marketing/sales programs for the Minneapolis Star Tribune where he was Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing and Mediapassage.com where he served as Chief Marketing Officer. He also served as Publisher of daily newspapers in Palo Alto and Pasadena.
At Turner Broadcasting, Culligan served as Vice President, Marketing for The Goodwill Games held in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1994.
He has been a featured speaker at American Association of Advertising Agencies Annual Media Conference, Nexpo, Newspaper Association of American Annual Conference, Newspaper Association of America’s Marketing Conference, Suburban Newspapers of America Publisher’s Conference and numerous other media and marketing meetings around the country.
Culligan was also a recipient of the prestigious American Marketing Association’s Gold Effie for Advertising Effectiveness. He has served on the Board of Directors of the California Newspaper Publishers Association, Tribune Company West, United Way of Minneapolis and was President of the Valley Industrial and Commerce Association in Los Angeles. He currently is a board member of The Maryland/Delaware/District of Columbia Publishers Association and International Newsmedia Marketing Association/North America.
Culligan holds undergraduate degrees in History and Advertising from Michigan State University. Mr. Culligan serves on the Dean’s Cabinet as well as on the Alumni Board of the College of Arts and Sciences at Michigan State. He is the recipient of the 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of Communications Arts and Sciences at Michigan State.
