Resume Tipshsk_title_resumetips

  • Make it legible. We recommend 10-12pt. size in Arial or Times New Roman fonts. Highlight with boldface or italic and complement with visual elements (e.g. bullets, indentations.)
  • Target your resume at a specific job or function in an industry served by HSK. Be prepared to customize your resume for each job opening you pursue.
  • Describe current duties in the present tense, and use past tense for prior jobs. Never use the first person “I.”
  • List dates of employment in reverse chronological order. Note month along with the year, rather than just the year.
  • Emphasize specific achievements, not just responsibilities and skills.
  • Keep to two pages, if possible, but don’t let page limits cause you to skimp on providing complete and pertinent information about your experience and accomplishments. Just try to be as concise as possible.
  • Attach additional pages highlighting “awards,” “speaking presentations,” “industry appointments,” and “articles authored,” if necessary.
  • There’s no need to include every detail of every position ever held or personal information, but all positions held should be accounted for in some manner.
  • Do not include personal information, such as spouse, kids and health. Including hobbies is optional, but many viewpoints argue against it.
  • Do not include “References available upon request.”
  • Provide multiple ways to contact you, such as, e-mail addresses, cell phone number and daytime phone number.
  • Do not misrepresent yourself. It may come to haunt you.
  • Send your resume to us via e-mail, addressed to a specific person at HSK, attached as a Microsoft Word document.
