Editorial & Content Division

Karen Danziger Pic"Our twelve-year-old Editorial and Content Division recruits editors, writers, production and design talent, at all levels, for all print publishing and new media environments. Our clients include publishers of magazines, newsletters, books, and newspapers nationwide, as well as electronic information providers and multi-media products. Similarly, our enormous database includes editors and writers, art directors, designers and production managers from each of these arenas. The subjects run the gamut from computers to healthcare, to fashion to beauty to business; the list is endless.

What sets us apart from other firms? Our recruiters have been in the trenches of an editorial environment. We have first-hand knowledge of what it takes to put out a quality product. We have assigned stories, written headlines, launched magazines, worked with designers, and done press checks (and, now, we have built a web site!). We like to think this makes us uniquely qualified to counsel and assist both sides - candidate and client - in their employment decisions.

If you are in need of editorial or creative talent, please contact me or one of my associates. Also, if you are interested in advancing your career, send us your resume and accomplishments so that we can call you with appropriate opportunities. All with the utmost of confidentiality."

Media Sales, Publishing & New Media Sales Division

Beth Thorbahn Pic"Throughout the media industry, The Howard-Sloan-Koller Group is known for its expertise at finding the very best people for positions in media sales, including all forms of print publishing, nontraditional media, and new media, as well as marketing and sales promotion. The recent growth in the new media area has been so explosive that in the sales arena alone, internet, interactive and online companies comprise at least 50% of our client base.

We are often charged with putting entire sales organizations in place, from top to bottom, providing counsel on structure, job titles and responsibilities. Given the major push on the part of these companies to build revenue, they rely on our expertise and 40-year track record to grow their businesses. Part of our success comes from the breadth of our approach -- working closely with our colleagues who come to new media from other disciplines, such as technology or content.

Like my colleagues at The Howard-Sloan-Koller Group, my background prior to joining the company five years ago encompasses the areas of business that we serve. Five years in advertising agency account management, plus eight years as Advertising Manager for an international trade magazine, enable me to fully understand the needs of our clients and candidates.

I invite you to call me for a confidential discussion of your recruitment needs or, if considering a career move yourself, to find out about the job opportunities we're currently working on

Circulation, Consumer Marketing; Business Management Division

Lee Martin Pic"Paid subscribers, click-throughs, ratebase management, single-copy sell-through ... the buzz words of circulation management are what can make or break a publishing or new media organization today. Especially when they're key ingredients in a bottom line-oriented -- and strategic -- business plan. That's why searches for circulation directors, renewal managers, GMs, and CFOs are a greater part of the HSK Group's volume of searches than ever before. While always a part of our business, the growing need for these business side publishing executives keeps us thoroughly up-to-date on the best players and winning strategies within circulation, consumer marketing, and business management.

With over 15 years of experience on both the creative and business sides of publishing, I know first-hand what qualities to look for in assessing talent. As the founder of a newsletters company prior to my arrival at HSK, I understand what drives revenue and what it takes to build subscriptions, retention, and back-end fulfillment systems. Additionally, knowledge of business operations gained through my MBA enables me to ask candidates tough questions to test their business acumen.

I have recently completed searches for Primedia, Time Inc Health, and Business Week Online. I encourage you to contact me to discuss how HSK can help you advance your career, or, as a prospective client, how we can help you identify that hard-to-find consumer marketing or business professional."
