Each HSK consultant holds a leadership role within one or several specialty areas, which positions the firm to work with people who truly excel at what they do.

Edward R. Koller, Jr.

Ed oversees business development for the firm in all areas of publishing, media and entertainment, while also staying deeply involved in high-level searches. In addition to providing overall leadership for the company, Ed provides high-level consulting and recruitment for companies at all stages of development, including startup and merger/acquisition phases. His loyal client base has worked with him for many years, sometimes developing from a relationship started 20 years ago when Ed placed the person in a junior sales position. Ed's intuitive ability gives him an unmatched talent for sensing the subtleties of a "perfect fit."
 
Ed joined HSK 25 years ago after dabbling in radio sales. He quickly excelled, ultimately acquiring the firm and converting its business model from contingency to retained. Ed has shared his special insights in his book, "The Hiring Challenge" (Folio, 1992). He is a past president of the Business Professional Advertising Association (B/PAA), an active member of The Advertising Club of New York and The Information Industry Association. He also is involved in and served as president of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation's New York Chapter.

Karen Danziger

Karen oversees the firm's recruitment in editorial/content, production, design/creative services, and brand promotion and licensing across all media platforms--print and digital. Editors know Karen as one who truly understands what they do--without a lot of explaining required. She is a partner in the firm, supervising business development and operations, while also managing high-level searches.
 
Prior to joining HSK, Karen was a magazine editor for 12 years. She worked for CMP Media, the American Bar Association and a housing b2b magazine. Karen is a member of Women in Communications and the Society of National Association Publications.

Carrie Molay

Carrie is a senior team leader of HSK's advertising sales and marketing practice in publishing, digital media and cable, and contributes to the firm's content searches. She joined HSK in 2006 after 8 years at Lifestyle Media, a special interest consumer magazine group best known for American Cheerleader. As Vice President, Group Publisher, she launched magazines, websites and conferences, managed P&L;, and had direct oversight of sales, editorial and art, including hiring and training, for her portfolio of products. She helped ready the company for sale in late 2006.
 
Concurrently, Carrie also served on the board of Luminary Publishing providing strategic consulting regarding operational efficiency and the launch of a second title. She worked in sales, marketing and PR in the real estate industry before moving into media.

Mara Covell

Mara helps clients identify and attract superior talent by drawing on her 20+ years in traditional and nontraditional media. Mara joined HSK in 1999, after being both a client and a candidate of the firm. She works in the firm's Editorial/Creative Services practice area across all platforms--print and digital--and also oversees the firms recruiting in Hispanic and multilingual media. She also oversees many of the firm's searches in book publishing.
 
Mara's career as a media executive began as an editor on consumer magazines at Condé Nast. She later expanded into other media platforms and business models, including books, video programs, and a variety of products customized for clients, working at Whittle Communications, based in Knoxville, TN, for 10+ years, before creating her own media consulting firm. Her experience includes launching a Spanish-language magazine for Hispanic mothers, La Familia de Hoy, as well as many other launches.

Phil Growick

Phil's relationships run wide and deep with many of the nation's top national and regional agencies and creatives. Before joining Jerry Fields in 1991, he was a principal and Chief Creative Officer of Van Brunt/Growick, a $40 million agency. Over the years he had won numerous prestigious awards including CLIOs and ANDYs. At Jerry Fields, he has helped large and smaller creative shops attract top talent in advertising, sales promotion, interactive and direct. A partial list of clients includes McCann-Erickson, Cramer Krasselt, Lowe Worldwide, Sedgwick Rd., Grey Worldwide, Ryan Partnership, GSD&M;, Saatchi & Saatchi and many more.

Mary V. Olson

Mary leads business development for the firm's newspaper and broadcasting practices, with emphasis on their digital businesses. She also plays a strong candidate-development role across the firm,s function areas, including sales, marketing, general operations, editorial, public relations, and human resources. Mary came to HSK from the Tribune Company, where she was the Managing Director, Executive Recruitment and Strategy, responsible for all executive recruitment and sales strategy across the nation. She also served as an Executive Coach and coached new executives through their first year and throughout their careers at Tribune. Prior to this role, Mary was a Senior Sales Executive at WGN-TV and held various positions at Tribune, including Director of National Recruitment and was part of the Tribune/Times Mirror Merger and Integration Team. Mary began her career in the broadcast industry, working as an on air-reporter for various cable and television stations.

Mary holds an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor's degree in Communications and Public Relations from Illinois State University.

Dick Schenkel

Dick helps clients by drawing on his experience as a journalist and an entrepreneur, as well as on his MBA training. He oversees the firm's recruiting in the critical area of newsstand circulation and direct marketing as well as high-level operations management positions. In the general management area, common searches are for COOs and GMs of media companies (print and digital) and exhibit/conference businesses. Other common searches are VPs and Directors of magazine circulation and directors of custom publishing.
 
Prior to joining HSK in 1994, Dick cofounded a national sports newsletter. He also worked at Hearst Professional Magazines and The (Bergen) Record. Dick is a member of the Direct Marketing Association, Direct Marketing Club of New York, and the National Trade Circulation Council.

Karen Shnek-Lippman

A seasoned veteran of many of the area's top public relations agencies and companies, Karen Shnek-Lippman is the firm's corporate communications/PR specialist. Prior to joining HSK in 1999, Karen was the PR Director for New York's legendary Tavern on the Green restaurant where she oversaw all of the restaurant's advertising, marketing and PR efforts. Karen currently contributes her media expertise to HSK's editorial/creative services division where she has assisted on numerous searches.

Sharon Spielman

After an extensive career in advertising and marketing, Sharon joined the executive search industry in the 1980's. She specializes in executive management, new business directors, senior agency account management and corporate advertising and marketers with domestic and global experience. Her strong relationships in the advertising industry coupled with her depth of experience serve her well in the search business, resulting in long-lasting associations with clients and candidates.
 
Sharon worked on both the client and agency sides of the business, on everything from retail to consumer packaged goods at large and smaller companies. She understands the importance of culture within companies and how this affects the successes of both management and their employees. An industry activist, she chairs the Senior Steering Committee for the Advertising Club of New York. Sharon also serves on the Advertising and Communications Executive Committee for The UJA Federation of New York. She was cofounder of the Madison Avenue Sellout, a major industry fundraising event.

Ariella Altabet

Ariella works in candidate development at HSK in a variety of practice areas, with an emphasis in sales and marketing. She joined HSK early in 2006 after working in corporate marketing and creative services at two major publishing companies, Time Inc. and Hachette Filipacchi Media. Most recently, she was a project coordinator for Time Inc.'s Teen People, All You, People en Español, Sports Illustrated for Kids, and Time for Kids. She spent a year and a half in online marketing for a leading book publisher, Bookspan, a division of Time Warner and Bertelsmann before joining Time Inc. For two years prior, Ariella managed projects for all Hachette Filipacchi Media titles as Corporate Marketing/Creative Services Coordinator from 2000-2002. Ariella was a public relations intern at Manning Selvage & Lee in Washington D.C. before moving to New York, where she soon joined Hachette.

Randy Duax

Randy recruits advertising sales and marketing professionals, while also serving as Director of Research for the firm. He is an award-winning author and editor, with a master's degree in creative writing from Southampton College, which he received while working at HSK. He has penned articles and fiction for a variety of newspapers and magazines, and brings a literary edge to the firm's search work and recruiting process, as well as some online savvy common among recent college graduates.

Eddie joined HSK in January 2007, where he works in candidate development across the firm's practice areas. Prior to joining HSK, Koller was Director of Strategic Planning and Analysis for Action Media Holdings LLC (AMH), a Great Hill Partners portfolio company and leading provider of niche consumer exhibitions and related online communities for lifestyle automotive enthusiasts. Primarily responsible for the company's M&A; and business development initiatives, he played a key role in launch of AMH's Web Operations and was involved in the sale of the company to Apprise Media in September 2006. Prior to joining Action Media Holdings in May 2005, Eddie was an Associate at The Jordan, Edmiston Group, Inc. (JEGI), a leading investment banking and M&A; advisory firm specializing in the media and information industries. Eddie supported the firm's Managing Directors in sell-side and buy-side assignments, formal valuations and detailed company and industry research.
 
Eddie graduated from Bucknell University in May 2001, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and is active in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. He earned the distinction of Cum Laude and was a member of Bucknell's Varsity Men's Tennis Team.

Collette Richardson

Collette Richardson works in candidate development for HSK's content and creative searches across all platforms, as well as sales/marketing professionals in book publishing. She came to the firm in 2006 after ten years as a Publication Manager of two industrial magazines at Thomas Publishing, focusing on domestic and international markets, after which she served as an independent providing data and media/PR assistance to U.S. manufacturers doing business in western Eurpope. Collette's early experience includes international merchandising in the cosmetics industry and founding a fashion and makeup trends newsletter for overseas markets. Collette has lived in London, Paris and New York.

Amy Shigo

Amy works in candidate development across the firm's practice areas, with emphasis on content, design, promotion and entertainment. She comes to HSK with 15 years of television production experience. Amy has written and produced features for ESPN, the National Hockey League, and Oxygen Media, and garnered an Emmy Award for her work at ESPN. She has also acted as a Marketing and PR consultant for a variety of companies, organizations and professional athletes. With her appreciation for the creative process and the written word, as well as her relationship-building style, Amy has transitioned to the media search industry seamlessly.
 
Adventurous in spirit, Amy is a four time Ironman and a "novice" mountain climber. She is a founding member of The Matthew Larson Foundation for Pediatric Brain Tumor Research and is involved in a variety of charitable events.
